North Park, San Diego, CA – North Park is one of San
Diego’s most historic neighborhoods and over the last few years, the area
has seen a Renaissance of new businesses, residents and culture. The area is
now an urban twist of new and vintage, historic and fresh. So what better
place to celebrate a multicultural arts and entertainment extravaganza than
the very neighborhood that encompasses it all! It’s the 14th Annual North
Park Festival of the Arts, taking place on Sunday, May 16th, 2010 from 10:00
AM through 6:00 PM on University between 30th and 32nd Street. Best of all,
it’s a FREE event that has something for everyone. Whether you are looking
for live music, exciting dance moves, vendor booths, fabulous food, a little
something to entertain and educate the kids, or of course, amazing artwork
from around the globe, you are sure to find hours of fun and exciting things
to wow and delight you and your whole family!
One of the best parts of a street festival are the
vendors and the North Park Festival of the Arts delivers with over 100
specialty booths filled with thousands of treasures. Peruse all types of
hand made crafts, unique décor items and everything in between. Also, be
sure to stop into the International Food Court to sample delicious and
aromatic foods, cool and tantalizing drinks and desserts from dozens of
local restaurants and specialty caterers.
The
North Park Festival of the Arts will be rocking the historic neighborhood
all day long with every type of musical genre and interactive entertainment
on SIX stages! The Main Stage will blow you away featuring talented artists
like rising star Josh Damigo, unique sounds of Republic of Letters and
Wirepony. If you want to sit back and relax head over to the Beats & Eats
Stage where you can listen to the spoken word poetry of Archie Underwood,
enjoy the interesting circus rock of Platypus Egg and many more varieties of
musical stylings. While the Beats & Eats Stage will tempt and treat you to
some of the most experimental music in San Diego, the Drowsy Maggie’s Stage
will get you in touch with your inner musical spirit with bands like Floyd
Fronius & The Marcia Forman Band who will perform Swing and Blues for the
soul and Raggle Taggle Celtic Band with Step Dancers with their own blend of
good “thyme” gypsy swing. Looking for some rock-n-roll, Americana or pop
sounds? It’s the Bar Pink Stage for you with exciting musicians such as
Lights On, Midnight Rivals, Sara Petite and many more. The Dance Stage is
the perfect place to feel light on your toes with the amazing choreography
of San Diego Ballet’s Junior Company, vibrant dances of The Pride of
Polynesia Dance Revue and many more vivacious dance troupes throughout San
Diego. Hear music from around the globe at the World Music Stage. You will
be transported to the Mediterranean as you listen to Rebetiko, fascinated by
the foot stomping of Appalachian Folk Musician Curt Bouterse and be
enthralled with stories and performances from South African Marimba and
Mbira Music of Zimbeat. With so many phenomenal entertainers, there is no
way that anyone can leave this festival without being amazed or energized by
these powerful stage line-ups.
There
are literally thousands of reasons that you should attend the North Park
Festival of the Arts, but only one is the highlight of the day. Peruse the
Artists’ Village where artisans display and sell their amazing creations
from every imaginable medium. Painters from the worlds of oils and acrylics
along with impressionists and ethereal watercolorists will exhibit alongside
sculptors of clay, metal and ceramics. Take in the intricate detail of
pencil and chalk drawings or be amazed at the rich and textured technique of
encaustic painting. The best part of the event is that around every corner,
you’ll discover new and obscure mediums from every corner of the globe.
The
North Park Festival of the Arts is one of San Diego’s favorite family
friendly events and there’s no wonder why. Featuring blocks of flavorful
food, shopping and entertainment, this annual event draws more than 35,000

artistic creativity! This year, Rare Hare Studios, Young Audiences of San
