Spring Festival 2005

Ninth Spring Festival Has Huge Turnout

Volunteers make the day

May 2005 – The ninth annual North Park Spring Festival on May 15 was a terrific success this year.  The crowd was estimated at over 40,000 people.  The  unique blend of arts, culture, and entertainment created an event highlighting North Park’s diversity and dedication to the arts.

This year featured two new stages: the Youth Stage and the Music in the Park Stage.  The Youth Stage included children’s performance groups, a puppeteer, and “musical petting zoos” made possible with instruments from North Park’s three music shops.  The stage was also integrated into the Kid’s Art Beat area of the Festival.

The Music in the Park Stage was coordinated by North Park’s three music stores: Acoustic Expressions, Page Drums, and The Windsmith.  Each store booked groups representing the different types of instruments and services provided by each respective store.  Both of these stages were very successful.

As always the Dance Stage was the most successful stage of the Spring Festival.  This is due in no small part to the hard work of Kathryn Irey.  She worked all year long to develop this stage and create a truly unique attraction that is unrivaled anywhere in San Diego County.

Art was ever present throughout the event.  Ray Street was abuzz with activity, where artists and craftspeople demonstrated their wares.  All of the Ray Street galleries were open as well.  Festival attendees were encouraged to draw their own art creations in colored chalk on red paper that was taped to the side of Big Lots.  Stilt walkers dressed in colorful costumes strided their way through the crowds.

North Park Main Street would like to thank its sponsors and media partners.  Sycuan Resort & Casino, the San Diego Union~Tribune, San Diego National Bank, and the North Park News among many others

This event was possible because of the many volunteers that assisted on May 15, and of course, the Spring Festival Committee worked hard all year to make this day possible.  Kudos to Daniel Bess, the Chair of the Spring Festival Committee for leading this dedicated team.
